Drop your spatulas! There's a new trailer for The Great American Baking Show, and it's giving us everything we could have hoped for.
We get our first look at actors Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry in their new roles as the show's hosts. News of the pair joining the show was first announced in August of last year. Brian Tannenbaum, head of alternative originals at Roku, dubbed Kemper and Cherry the "perfect duo."
And we have to admit that the two do in fact look pretty perfect together in the trailer as they exchange quirky banter and engage in goofy antics (popping out of a cake, for one).
Judging the baking competition will be The Great British Bake Off veterans Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. At the start of the trailer, Leith expressed her confidence in the group of American bakers. "I'm rather hoping that these bakers will bring something new to the tent. America genuinely is the great melting pot of the world," she said.
But don't let that dash of optimism fool you; Leith still doesn't hesitate in letting bakers know when their creations have flopped.
"It's like concrete, darling. You can break your teeth on that," the judge informed one contestant.
At one point, Leith says, “We have bakers in the tent, and you’ve given them burgers."
“I expect the Americans to know what a burger is,” Hollywood says.
And as if we weren't already hyped for the new season, Paul Hollywood referring to competitors as "the best group" of American bakers he's judged has us fully locked in.
All six episodes of The Great American Baking Show will be made available on the Roku Network on May 5.
