Hot sauce lovers, you might want to sit down for this news. Almost a year after Huy Fong Foods Inc., the maker of Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, announced a sriracha shortage, they've hit us with more grim news. According to new reports, we're in the midst of yet another sriracha shortage. And this time around, it's worse, with the company is calling it "unprecedented."

In a statement released to CBS MoneyWatch, Huy Fong Foods offered an explanation of the new shortage. The problem last year was caused by chili pepper scarcity resulting from weather conditions. The manufacturer revealed that although there was "some production" after last year's shortage, they are still left with a "limited supply."

"Unfortunately, we are still experiencing a shortage of raw material," the company said. "At this time, we have no estimations of when supply will increase. Because we do not sell directly to retail/market levels, we cannot determine when product will hit shelves again and/or who currently has product in stock."

Over on social media, sriracha lovers have found themselves experiencing a bit of spicy déjà vu.

"I thought the National Sriracha shortage had ended, as I was able to find it in stores for a few months. I should have hoarded, god damn it, because it’s gone again," tweeted one user, who seems to be feeling some regret.

And then, there are the crafty few who have taken it upon themselves to make their own sriracha.
